Glassteglen
Glassteglen is a nursing home designed with the needs of the elderly at its core. The nursing home is an evolution of the existing "Paulus" nursing home. It promotes an active and social daily life within safe and supportive surroundings. The architecture encourages free movement, exploration, and interaction, with tall, bright rooms and corridors that invite walking and spontaneous encounters
The city is also welcomed into much of the nursing home's shared spaces, such as the café and sky bar. Despite residents spending much of their time indoors, Glassteglen is designed to maintain a strong connection to the city, with direct access to the Akerselva river and expansive views of the urban landscape.
Glassteglen’s outdoor areas, facilities, and numerous scattered and varied seating spots offer opportunities for both activity and relaxation. The building's facade consists of clear and frosted glass, and the glazed rectangular living units are what give Glassteglen its name—“The Glass Tile.”
The architecture creates a space for social connection. At Glassteglen, life is not just about having a place to live—it's about living actively and with dignity.
